Top 10 Reasons why top 10 Pickup Artist lists suck

As another year closes, most websites in the seduction community are unveiling their top 10 lists of the year 2009′s best pickup artists. It’s almost a rite of passage as more and more guys get into the PUA community, they all tend to compete for a coveted spot so they can claim “Number 1 Pickup Artist in the World”.

You may be asking why we haven’t included a top 10 list at PUA Gathering. To be honest, we were kind of hoping we could let the New Year slide into 2010 without all the bravado. But when talking over it further, we came up with a lot of reasons why we really ought not include a top 10 list here. And for ours and yours’ entertainment, we thought we should share.

So without further ado.. The Top 10 Reasons why top 10 Pickup Artist lists suck

10 – There are just way too many pickup artists all across the world to be able to narrow it down to just 10. Sure, a lot of guys do travel and network quite extensively across the community, but an arbitrary top 10 list based on reader opinions or editors selection is going to be centric to what you know.

9 – Quid Pro Quo. Most guys let there biases get the best of them and creep into their lists. Thus, most guys simply recommend their friends. This could be entirely unknowing, or it can be a way of saying “Hey, I got your back”, and let them establish a little street cred they wouldn’t otherwise have.

8 – The same names year after year. Yes, we know they forged new paths in 2005, but times have changed quite a bit since the publishing of “The Game”. For one, most guys can’t claim master status simply for thinking up the latest witty opinion opener, nor should they be included in a list when they spent most of the year in a quiet relationship.

7 – The real “top 10 pickup artists” probably aren’t even teaching pickup, otherwise, Wilt Chamberlain and John F Kennedy would be getting the top title every year.

6 – Top pickup artists with no pictures or infield footage? Well, I guess we take the list makers on their word, or dive right into a 1 on 1 bootcamp at $500 per hour.

5 – There are way too many styles out there to be compiling anything into a “Top 10” list. It simply follows a narrow frame of mind that doesn’t exist, that pickup is linear with a progression of unskilled towards skilled. In reality, many different concepts and methods work for different people. Some guys like natural game, some guys are still doing routines. It doesn’t matter, its up to each to find his own way of finding out what works for him, not comparing himself or others in a highly subjective subject matter in an archaic fashion.

4 – Pickup Artists have different goals. Some are looking to master dating and relationships. Others are simply out gunning to run their number of sexual conquests up. Who’s to say who’s better just because one gets the most amount of closes off of cold approaching?

3 – There are more and more lists every year. I won’t mention “the one”, but there used to be an agreed upon standard to who would compile the top pickup artist list. That worked for a few years, but with charges of bias, and each enterprise wanting to throw their own prestige in the judgments, we now have several lists that all rank according to their own judgments. There is no “official list”, and there probably never was one.

2 – The ranking of most lists is probably as arbitrarily determined as this one.

1 – We’re about to have a whole new crop of websites that will all boldly declare “Voted number #X best Pickup Artist in the world!!!1” complete with exit popups and auto-starting sales pitch videos.
